With a hardness of 5 to 6 on the Mohs scale she is relatively soft but highly valued for her unique hue, which ranges from sky blue to blue-green depending on the copper and iron content. Her name comes from the French turquoise, meaning Turkey, as the stone was first brought to Europe through Turkish trade routes, though much of it originated from Persia. She is found in regions such as the USA, Mexico, Egypt, China, Iran and Tibet. Known and prized since ancient times, she has adorned amulets, jewellery and ceremonial objects for millennia. Her calming tones reflect the meeting of sky and earth, embodying balance and harmony.
