Pyrite, often called Fool’s Gold for her gleaming metallic lustre, is an iron sulphide mineral with a cubic crystal system. Her name derives from the Greek pyr, meaning “fire,” as she was believed to contain the essence of flame within her core and can indeed spark when struck. Found across the world, particularly in the United States, Spain, Portugal, Italy, the United Kingdom, Chile and Peru, she forms in glittering clusters and fine cubic structures. With a hardness of 6 to 6.5 on the Mohs scale, she is resilient yet brittle, her brassy-gold shine reflecting both light and warmth. Though commonly mistaken for gold, she carries a more steadfast and earthy character, bridging the fiery and grounded energies of the planet.
