Amethyst is the purple variety of quartz, displaying shades that range from the softest lilac to the deepest violet. Her colour comes from trace amounts of iron within her structure, altered by natural irradiation. She has a hardness of 7 on the Mohs scale which makes her durable and suitable for everyday use. Amethyst often forms in six-sided prisms and is commonly found in geodes where crystals line the inside of volcanic rock cavities. Significant deposits are found in Brazil, Uruguay, Zambia and Russia. She has been cherished as a gemstone and spiritual ally since ancient times.
